Alaska Airlines has one of the clearest baggage policies we’ve seen. Depending on the route and cabin, 2 or 3 standard bags are included or just $30 for the first bag, and additional bags cost less than the average cost of the airlines we’ve reviewed.

Alaska Airlines carry-on baggage allowance

  • 1 personal item: FREE

Size restrictions

  • Personal: Size not disclosed, but Alaska refers to items such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop bag.
  • Standard: 22 x 14 x 9 inches (55.88 x 35.56 x 22.86 cm) or 45 linear inches, including handles and wheels
  • Alaska does not have a weight limit for carry-on luggage, but you must be able to lift your bag and place it in the overhead bin without assistance.

Carry-on baggage policy for babies on lap

Lap babies are not entitled to their own carry-on baggage allowance, so a diaper bag would count toward the adult passenger’s standard carry-on baggage allowance.

The transportation of a car seat and/or stroller for children is free of charge as checked baggage. These items can be checked in with other luggage or at the gate area.

Alaska Airlines Overweight Baggage Fees

Any bag weighing between 50 and 100 pounds is considered overweight baggage on Alaska Airlines. Luggage weighing more than 100 pounds is not permitted. Fees for checking overweight baggage in Alaska are charged in lieu of standard, excess, or oversized baggage fees.

Alaska Airlines Oversized Baggage Fees

Most bags with a total length, width, and height between 63 and 115 inches will fall into the oversized category. Any items exceeding 115 inches in overall dimensions will not be accepted. Alaska Airlines oversized baggage fees are charged in lieu of any standard, oversize, or overweight fees.
