Like all airlines, Jet Blue has specific baggage allowance requirements when checking a bag or carrying a carry-on bag when flying. Their rules are very similar to those of other airlines with some variations to take into account. If you accidentally bring a suitcase that is too large or too heavy, you may incur additional charges.

Jet Blue Baggage Policy

Jet Blue offers affordable ticket prices through what can be described as an a la carte model. While some airlines allow free carry-on or checked bags, Jet Blue’s base fares give you the option to add these benefits for a premium.

Each passenger can bring one personal item on board for free; These are small bags or backpacks that easily fit under the seat in front of you. If you are not a Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra or Mosaic member of the airline, charges will apply for bringing any other baggage.

Jet Blue differs from other airlines in that Blue Basic passengers who bring a carry-on bag to the gate will be required to check the baggage and pay the checked baggage fee. These rates are $65 per bag for the first two bags and $180 for the third, unless you have purchased this service in advance.

Jet Blue baggage Fees

If you don’t qualify for military discounts, you can still travel affordably with checked luggage if you plan ahead. The rates above are prices you will pay at the airport when your fare does not include checked baggage allowance.

Jet Blue baggage fees are divided into domestic travel (including the Caribbean and Latin America) and international travel (to the United Kingdom and Europe).

On a domestic flight, a Jet Blue checked bag fee that meets the size and weight requirements listed below is just $35. The second suitcase costs an additional $45; a third bag will cost you $150. You can get discounts on your first two bags by paying baggage fees in advance.

Checking a bag for an international flight, meeting the same requirements as domestic baggage, costs $65 for the first bag, $105 for the second and $200 for the third.

Regardless of your destination, the suitcase must be less than 62 linear inches and the weight limit for Jet Blue luggage is 50 pounds. Exceeding these limits will incur additional costs, increasing your fees to $150 per bag until it exceeds 80 inches or 99 pounds. If it exceeds the upper limits, the bag will not be accepted.

hand luggage

Does Jet Blue allow carry-on luggage? The answer is yes, but they have specific requirements that must be met. And a lot depends on your fare class or level of loyalty benefits.

When booking a ticket, the cheapest fare is called Basic Blue. If you have a short trip or don’t need to pack much, this option allows you to bring one personal item but not carry-on luggage.

Higher fares come with other perks, including no carry-on baggage fees. Of course, if you fly with Jet Blue frequently, you can sign up for their loyalty program. Called Mosaic, this program offers even more perks to its members and can include free carry-on bags, reduced fares, premium boarding, and more.

BLUE TOTE BAG SIZE NOW

Whether you can bring a carry-on bag as part of your fare class, a loyalty member benefit, or pay a fee, all carry-on bags must meet Jet Blue’s carry-on size limit.

These limitations are not arbitrary nor are they intended to make life difficult. They are based on the size of the aircraft’s overhead storage compartments.

Including wheels and handles, carry-on luggage for Jet Blue cannot exceed 22 x 14 x 9, that is, 22 inches long, 14 inches wide and 9 inches deep. These are in line with standard size limits for most domestic airlines.

BLUE JET HAND WEIGHT LIMIT

Airlines limit the size of your carry-on luggage so that it can easily fit in the overhead space and leave enough room for other passengers’ luggage. Most international airlines also limit the weight of carry-on luggage.

Limiting weight helps ensure that the airplane is properly balanced and you can easily estimate what the final takeoff weight will be if the airplane is full. International flights have carry-on weight limits ranging from less than 15 pounds to 50 pounds.

Jet Blue’s carry-on baggage policy does not indicate any specific weight limits for carry-on bags. However, you must be able to lift it to place it in the overhead compartment.

Personal items and Jet Blue

Each passenger flying with Jet Blue is allowed to bring one personal item. These items are usually purses, laptop bags or small backpacks and should fit under the seat in front of you. This policy allows you to have onboard access to important items such as medications, books, electronics, documents and more.

There is no weight limit for your personal item under the seat; however, it should not exceed 17 x 13 x 8, that is, 17 inches long, 13 inches wide, and 8 inches high.

BABY AND JET BLUE HAND POLICY

Traveling is one of the best ways to expose children to the wonders of the world. Of course, kids come with a lot of baggage…literally.

Jet Blue’s child baggage policies are in line with those of other major airlines and are briefly summarized below:

Children up to 2 years old can sit on their parents’ laps.
Diaper bags are allowed in addition to personal items and carry-on luggage.
Breast pumps are considered assistive devices and do not count as carry-on luggage.
Cars and strollers can be checked in free of charge.
